Dr. Valliammai (Valli) Muthappan
Dr. Valliammai (Valli) Muthappan is a board-certified and fellowship-trained ophthalmologist, specializing in cataract surgery, corneal pathology and surgery, and laser-based refractive procedures.
Dr. Valli was born and raised in Murrysville, PA. She graduated with honors from Shady Side Academy.
She is a magna cum laude graduate of Northwestern University with a B.A. in Chemistry and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa honors society. She received her M.D. from Washington University in St. Louis, where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and received the Margaret G. Smith Award for being the top student in her class.
Dr. Valli completed her ophthalmology residency at the Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. She did her cornea and refractive surgery fellowship at the Moran Eye Center of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, UT.
Along with multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals, Dr. Valli has also presented her research at The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS), The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), and The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS), and received numerous grants and prizes for her extensive research and clinical studies.
Dr. Valli sees patients for anterior segment pathology and surgical care, including cataract surgery with standard and specialty intraocular lenses and ophthalmic laser procedures. She specializes in corneal pathology and is experienced in performing corneal transplant procedures, including DSAEK, DMEK, DALK, and penetrating keratoplasty. She performs laser vision correction (LASIK/PRK) and intraocular refractive procedures (ICL).
In her spare time, Dr. Valli likes to practice yoga and go running and hiking. She also enjoys traveling with her husband and spending time with her parents and family.
